Ariel Goldring

Computer Science student at the University of Delaware (B.S. expected June 2027). I build full-stack web apps with React, TypeScript, and PostgreSQL, with a focus on enforcing authorization in the database. Before college, I spent eight years in the Army as a Sergeant and team lead.

Highlights

  • Built and deployed Strahd Hub solo, a React + Postgres app used by 2 D&D groups (~15 users), where 23 row-level security policies control what each user can see
  • Producer for a 24-person team that shipped Tails of the Tower, a 15-week capstone game, to itch.io
  • 8 years in the U.S. Army / NJ National Guard, leading teams of up to 30 as a Sergeant (E-5)

Tails of the Tower

15-week team capstone game, released on itch.io

A 2D pixel-art hack-and-slash game (about 40 minutes of play) made by a 24-person University of Delaware team. As producer, I managed timeline and scope across 5 sub-teams (art, programming, design, music, writing), working through each team's lead. I designed and ran 3 structured playtests and turned the results into visual summaries the team used to make design decisions.

Policy Lens

Hackathon web app that explains Terms of Service

Built with one teammate at HenHacks 2026. Paste or upload a Terms of Service, pick the topics you care about (data sharing, arbitration, liability), and optionally describe your situation (“I’m a photographer posting to Pinterest…”). It flags the relevant clauses and uses Gemini to summarize each one in plain language.

My role: Co-creator: app setup, keyword-based clause detection, the Gemini pipeline (only flagged chunks are sent), and the UI (category menu, jump-to-clause)

Experience

U.S. Army / NJ National Guard

Sergeant (E-5), Senior Team Lead · June 2017 – June 2025 · Worldwide · Lawrenceville, NJ

  • Led teams of 4–30 personnel in field exercises, coordinating logistics and task execution under time-sensitive operational conditions.
  • Designed a structured physical training program for 10 soldiers, reducing their APFT failure rate from 100% to ~20% through individualized planning and progress tracking.
  • Operated tactical SATCOM systems end-to-end: site surveys, equipment setup, link establishment, and month-long uplink maintenance.

University of Delaware D&D Club

President · August 2023 – June 2026

  • Negotiated a policy exception with RSO administration to fund a shared D&D Beyond account, expanding simultaneous resource access for 40+ members beyond what physical copies allowed.
  • Coordinated end-to-end logistics for annual Renaissance Faire trips for 40+ members (advertising, payment collection, ticketing, transportation) within university safety policies.

About

I'm a Computer Science student at the University of Delaware, based in Newark, DE. Before college I spent eight years in the U.S. Army and NJ National Guard, leading teams as a Sergeant and running tactical satellite communications in the field. Now I build full-stack web apps, and I care most about getting authorization right at the database layer. I also like the coordination side of software: producing a 24-person game project, running playtests, and leading a 40+ member student club.
